Francine is currently working on her PhD, under the supervision of Prof. Joyeeta Gupta, with the Amsterdam Institute for Social Sciences Research (AISSR) and the Center for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA). This project examines how metropolitan water governance regimes can be made coherent and synergetic with integrated basin management regimes to address urban water challenges. Research will be carried out in São Paulo (Brazil) and Mexico City (Mexico) and will make use of the collective action model for managing the commons and an institutional analysis framework to study water governance mechanisms used by metropolitan and basin authorities. These Doctorate studies were made possible by a grant from the LASP program at CEDLA.
Prior to this, Francine obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from New York University in 2010. In 2013, she graduated from the Research Master in International Development Studies at the University of Amsterdam, where she focused on urban water governance in São Paulo, Brazil. During her Master studies, she was involved as a research assistant in the Chance2Sustain international research project. Following this, she has conducted fieldwork and research in São Paulo and in Maputo (Mozambique).
