Dissertation title: The Emergence of Street Harassment as a Public Problem in France and the Netherlands

In October 2014 I started my PhD on the emergence of street harassment as a public problem in France and in the Netherlands, at the University of Amsterdam and at the EHESS in Paris. My supervisors are Cyril Lemieux (EHESS, LIER) and Jan Willem Duyvendak (Political Sociology - University of Amsterdam). For my dissertation I interviewed many feminists, politicians, policy makers, activists and jurists on how street harassment has become an issue of public concern and policy. In addition I did many observations of awareness raising meetings on this question in high schools, where I also did interviews with the pupils about their experiences with and views of what constitutes harassment.
