Davide Gnes is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (AISSR) and a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher within the INTEGRIM Initial Training Network. His research focuses on the cultural and political strategies of migrant advocacy organizations in Los Angeles, addressing the relation between migrant organizations and local institutions and civil society actors (philanthropic foundations, trade unions, advocacy groups, and others). His main research interests relate to: a) migrant political participation and incorporation; b) organizational analysis; c) migration policy, citizenship and rights regimes.
Davide completed a Masters’ Degree in Postcolonial Studies and International Relations ( cum laude) at the University of Pavia, Italy as well as a 2-year Research Master in International Migration and Social Cohesion (MISOCO) between Amsterdam, Bilbao, Lima and Riga. His latest Masters’ thesis, a multi-sited study of the Peruvian migrant community between Italy and Peru, looked at how migrants informally arranged social protection safety nets, both at the local and transnational level, through social capital.
Prior to his current position, Davide worked for a number of NGOs and nonprofit organizations in Jordan, Spain and Denmark on issues related to migrants’ and refugees’ rights, international development and humanitarian assistance.
