Dr Farid Boussaid is an assitant professor in Middle East politics at the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. He completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford (Oriental Studies Faculty). He obtained a Master’s degree in Middle East Studies from the University of Oxford  and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. He holds a BA in Political Science and in Economics from the University of Amsterdam. He has five years of work experience as a policy advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Finance, working mainly on development policy, World Bank and IMF related issues. He is currently the director of the Amsterdam Center for Middle Eastern Studies (ACMES).

Given his interdisciplinary background, he focuses on the intersection between, history, economics and politics. His PhD was on the historic evolution of state-business relations in Morocco. His current research interests are on the role of International financial institutions in the Middle East and North Africa.
