Prof. Pinar Bilgin, will visit the ACES theme group 'Europe in the World' in June, as a Visiting Scholar of the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies. During her visit, two events will be organised.
Pınar Bilgin is Professor of International Relations at Bilkent University. She specialises in critical approaches to International Relations and security. She is the author of Regional Security in the Middle East: A Critical Perspective (2005; 2nd ed. 2019), The International in Security, Security in the International (2016) and co-editor of Routledge Handbook of International Political Sociology (With Xavier Guillaume, 2017), Asia in International Relations: Unthinking Imperial Power Relations (with L.H.M. Ling, 2017). Prof. Bilgin is currently Associate Editor of International Studies Quarterly. Pinar Bilgin is ACES Visiting Scholar for the Europe in the World Theme Group in June 2019.
During her visit, three main events will be organised.
The first event will take place on June 6 from 15:00 - 17:00 at The Political Science Common Room REC B9.22. The setting is a lecture by Prof. Pinar Bilgin, ''Is Eurocentrism a concern when studying security in Europe? The case of the migration crisis in the Mediterranean''.
The second event will take place on June 12 from 11:00 - 12:30. Prof. Pinar Bilgin will host a workshop on Publishing Strategies for PHD students.
The third event will take place on June 11 from 12:00 - 14:00 at REC B3.02.
Prof. Pinar Bilgin will discuss her chapter ‘Securing the Postcolonial’, published in the Routledge Handbook of Postcolonial Politics (edited by Robbie Shilliam & Olivia Rubazibwa), in the research seminar of ACES.
