The New European Bauhaus, launched by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, aims to connect Europeans and their living environments to the European Green Deal. It is a platform for experimentation and connection that brings together science, technology, arts and culture. Focusing on co-creation, innovation, and science-practice interaction, the initiative calls upon Europeans to imagine and together work towards a sustainable and inclusive future with attention to quality of experience and aesthetics.

The Centre for Urban Studies' leadership strongly supports the initiative and is confident that the partnership will bring possibilities for collaboration with artists, practitioners and scholars, both nationally and internationally.

A number of main topics have been selected as a starting point for the Centre’s contribution to the New European Bauhaus, including: urban circularity, energy transitions in deprived neighbourhoods, codesigning for multispecies urbanism, and urban commons. Moreover, we are happy to support CUS members that want to take this partnership forward in other topics.
