Ten subject areas taught at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) are listed among the QS World University Rankings by Subject worldwide top 50, published on Thursday, 8 May. UvA’s programmes in Communication Science and Media Studies rank among the very best in the world at 7th place.

QS World University Rankings Humanities

The nine other subject areas ranked in the top 50 are Linguistics (15th), Psychology (16th), Sociology (also 16th), Human Geography, Planning & Development Studies (18th), Information (35th), Medicine (43rd), Accounting & Finance (45th), Philosophy (47th) and Law (50th).

The QS World University Rankings by Subject assessed subject areas within the following disciplines: Social Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences and Arts & Humanities. The UvA now has 22 subject areas within these disciplines ranked among the world’s top 200.

Reputation and citations

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are determined on the basis of reputation among experts in the field and employers and on citations, with the relative importance of these criteria differing per subject area. The QS annual overall World University Ranking will be published in the autumn.
