The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has appointed UvA professors Eveline Crone, Martin van Hees and Annemarie Mol as members. Membership of the KNAW, which includes leading academics from every discipline, is awarded based on nominations from peers both within and outside of the Academy.

A total of 15 new members have joined. Membership is lifelong. The new Academy members will be formally inaugurated in the Trippenhuis, the seat of the KNAW, on Monday 30 September.

About the new members

Eveline Crone (1975) is professor by special appointment of Neurocognitive and Affective Development in Adolescence at the UvA and a professor of Developmental Psychology at the University of Leiden. She carries out innovative research into adolescent brain function, using MRI scans.

Martin van Hees (1964) is a professor of Political Theory at the UvA. His research focuses on the analysis of moral and political values. This includes looking at the relationship between social justice and individual freedom.

Annemarie Mol (1958) is a professor of Anthropology of the Body at the UvA. She researches everyday, clinical and scientific practices related to the body, such as physical recovery, care, eating and drinking. Her research is multidisciplinary in nature and transcends existing analytical frameworks.
