I conducted my doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg in Germany. I did my fieldwork in the southern Chinese megalopolis of Shenzhen, where I studied the interconnections of class, ethnicity, and place in the construction of a collective identity among internal migrant workers.
In Worlds of Lithium, I focus on the role of lithium in the imagination of an Ecological Civilization (生态文明), this being one of the landmark projects of the Chinese government. I am also looking at how finance capitalism articulates new transformations of lithium as a resource of financial speculation and as an enabler of 'material transitions' towards a more or less sustainable capitalism.
I am also a photo-documentalist and the host of the podcast 'Todo bajo el Cielo'.
