Chuk Yan (Edwina) Wong's research focuses on how contexts and organizational structures shape experiences of marginalization and exclusion. Her research is generally based on what organizations and institutions do regarding their Justice, Eq(ual)ity, Diversity, and Inclusion efforts (JEDI), and how they are received by the people who should be benefiting from these efforts. In that vein, Wong received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Work and Organizational Psychology from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Wong's Ph.D. focused on how popular gender diversity interventions operate as a form of White feminism in corporate environments, and how these interventions do not fully benefit women outside of White feminist molds, particularly racially marginalized women and women from the Global South. In that vein, Wong's research explores what an intersectional praxis can look like for organizational JEDI interventions.
Currently, Wong is a postdoc researcher for the interdisciplinary and NWO-funded project, Disrupting Sameness in Dutch Academia. This project examines how marginalization and sameness work part and parcel in the setting of Dutch universities. To that end, Wong uses participatory action research and a focus on implementation science to make sure that the research results in practical help for marginalized groups in Dutch higher education.
