This workshop calls on all researchers working on a project that engages - directly or indirectly - with porn archives. Join us on 21 May as we engage with each other's work and learn more about this rich, yet often overlooked, field of research.
Event details of Queer Histories: Archiving Porn
Date
21 May 2024
Time
11:00 -15:00

The workshop will consist of a maximum of ten presentations of twenty-minutes each (11:00-15:00, incl. breaks and time for questions). The participants will be asked to present a work-in-progress of a historical research project in which they are engaging—directly or indirectly—with porn
archives. Scholars working on any aspect, region, and period of sexual history are encouraged to apply to the workshop. Presentations that spotlight works in progress, at any stage of the process, are welcome.

Some pornographic materials that are conceivable for a workshop participant to be engaging with in their work include, but are not limited to:
• Vintage erotica magazines
• Erotic photography collections
• BDSM literature and ephemera
• Adult comic books and graphic novels
• Pornographic literature
• Fetish-related objects and artifacts
• Amateur pornographic photography and home videos
• Historical sex education materials
• Erotic art prints and engravings
• Sexually explicit advertising campaigns
• Digital archives/online forums

Participants whose material falls outside the scope of this list—or that question the limits of what counts
as a porn archive altogether—are encouraged to join.

If you are interested in participating in the workshop, kindly send your full name, institutional affiliation (if any), a brief description of the project that you would like to present (max. three sentences), and a provisional title to Diego Galdo-González (d.a.galdogonzalez@uva.nl) by Tuesday 14 May 2024.
