Transforming research in and through film
Over the course of three days (15 - 17 April), no more than eight films will be screened, allowing for in-depth discussion.
The films have been selected with current conversations in visual anthropology in mind, enabling more focused debates.

Researchers can apply for Filmmaking for Research across the Disciplines, a comprehensive course designed for anyone interested in using film as a research method.
The programme combines an online summer school (June–July 2026) with weekly Zoom sessions and a 3-day hands-on workshop at the FMG MediaLab (30 June–2 July). Throughout the course, participants are guided through all key stages of ethnographic filmmaking, including developing a film proposal, research ethics, camera work, sound recording, and editing.
Alongside interactive sessions, participants complete small practical exercises and independent work, culminating in filming their own material and editing it during the on-campus workshop. The course offers a structured yet flexible introduction to camera-based research, suitable for a wide range of disciplines.
Seven fully funded places are available for researchers across the faculty. No prior filmmaking experience is required.
